Site Navigation

The screen is landscape oriented, the printed paper is portrait oriented. The display is designed to be dynamic in the way information is viewed which can't be transferred to paper.

Mousing over an icon or highlighted text will show a panel with related details. So you can read all the information in the document without scrolling or having to click on a new heading. Just point at the item.
NB some information is only visible while the mouse is over the icon, others remain in view until another item is selected (mouse pointed to it).

If there is more information on another document, it will also have an arrow icon () to show that a new document will be loaded.

Use the Printer Friendly Pages for paper copy.

The zonepad will make it so that you don't have to point.

Take Control

This site uses mouseover control.

Point to an icon or colour highlighted text and the information is displayed
no clicking, no scrolling

To link to another page you will be given the    icon to show you have to click.

When the Zonepad is developed it will use zonepad control
(control using only the zonepad - no keyboard or mouse)

The Zonepad
 Do it Your Way
In this mobile world, we want better control.

The touchscreen and pen is one way but still tedious.

The remote control with one key was simple, with lots of remotes and lots of keys - it's confusing

The zonepad makes it simple with lots of keys, and can be used for everything.
The PC is equivalent to a bus - because it allows you to do anything you want and can carry so much more when what most of us want is a Smart car to nip down town with no difficulty parking. The 'friendlier' computer -by analogy- is a Smart car that becomes the cab of the bus when we need more power or capacity.

There are so many ways in which things could be simplified by the computer but end up being done rigidly the way the computer dictates.

We have got so used to being controlled by the Operating System we can't see that the important thing is the data - our information. Everything has to be done the Operating System way not the way we want to work.

In the beginning, we needed an Operating System to glue everything together, but now the web has shown that things can be done independently.

The solution: the Zonepad is single handed, is small enough to fit in your pocket and can do most of the everyday tasks you expect of the computer; for the rest it becomes a 'remote control' to the PC, network or tv.
the Zonepad - a different approach
Most of the time all we want is access to the web, email and the ability to enter documents, perhaps with spreadsheet like tables.
- Everything easily viewed on the screen - no scrolling, easy navigation, preferably with keys.
- We don't want the fear of viruses and other nasties every time we do simple tasks over the web.
- It would be nice to be able to do this wherever we are, whether it is on a train or even sitting in an armchair in front of the tv.
- We would really like to use any available screen, including the tv, at the same time, why not let it be the remote control for everything.
- And when we have powerful stuff to do we use it as the control input to a powerful computer (you only need one PC not one per person).
- None of this is difficult, the applications are there, but not in a single package. and it would not use much power.

The catalyst to make it happen is the input method. The mouse and keyboard are acceptable on the desk, everywhere else they are more inconvenient. Compromise inputs are usable on the move but you wouldn't use them at the desk. What you need is an input method that is easy to use on the move and just as easy at you desk.     It is possible.

The input method has to replace the mouse and keyboard with a more intuitive approach. It has to be contextual - changing depending on the current task with a way of identifying which key to press without having to look away from the screen. The solution is the Zonepad.
